Hello Dear Friends and Readers! I have thoroughly enjoyed learning and writing about the threshold covenant. It has really deepened my understanding of Passover (the physical) and brought much more meaning (the spiritual) to the celebration of it in my home. Thank you for coming along on this journey with me. I am honored to be with you!
So how does Debbie celebrate?
I will begin with the disclaimer that I always describe my efforts at biblical feasting as "feasting on training wheels." If you are laughing, that is good. I am, too. ๐
I say that to say, feel free to get ideas from me, but please do not follow me. I am a student and a learner of these feasts, just like you.
Follow YHVH
Follow Him by reading your bible and making His feasts a life-long study. If you are anything like me, as you learn more, your feasts will look different and better with each year.
So with that disclaimer out of the way....
I will tell you that our first year, we went very traditional. I spent a TON of time researching what a Jewish Passover Seder would look like and emulated that very closely...with the addition of Yeshua as our Passover Lamb.
One year I made "stations" in my living room where guests visited and experienced portions of the traditional Passover Seder in a type of rotation and then met up for dinner in the dining room.
Last year (2020) I dropped almost all tradition and simply opened my bible. While it was a lonely year in some ways, as it was a quarantined Passover, it was also a beautiful and different type of celebration. I found in the stripping away of tradition and expectations of others, a deeply fulfilling appointment with The Father. And while I am looking forward to another deep year, I am more than excited to be able to add back a few special people to our 2021 celebration.
Feel free to refer back to Passover Part 6 for the scripture references to how I celebrate.
A few things I do NOT do:
I do not sacrifice a lamb or serve lamb as a main dish on Passover.
Why not? Because the lamb has been slain...and resurrected to never die again! (And a member of my family is allergic to lamb ๐)
I do not travel for the sake of traveling.
Why not? I think that the travel described in the book of Deuteronomy is referring to going to the place of YHVH's choosing. The place of His choosing is described here. If I had need to travel to celebrate with family or friends, I would not be opposed to that at all. But, I do not create a need for travel just in order to be "traveling" as described in Deuteronomy.
Things I DO:
I do prepare a dinner with roasted meat (usually chicken or turkey).
I do ask my husband to put "blood" (aka: grape juice) on the threshold and crosspost of our front door. We do this as a symbolic reminder of the threshold covenant. We feel comfortable using grape juice due to Messiah's words at the last supper.
I do serve matzot and bitter herbs (matzah and parsley at our house).
I do eat the Passover meal with my shoes on...ready to go...
I do remove the hametz from my home.
I do eat matzot (matzah or unleavened bread) for 7 days.
I do teach this feast to my child.
I do review the history of Israel's exodus from Egypt.
I do keep the 1st and 7th days of the feast as high sabbaths.
In addition to these commands from Exodus and Deuteronomy, I also share scripture from Isaiah chapter 11 with my family and guests. This entire chapter tells of the time of a second exodus. Yes, you read that correctly. Scripture tells us that there will be a SECOND EXODUS!
It will also come about in that day that my Lord will again redeem -- a second time with His hand -- the remnant of His people that remain.
Isaiah 11:11
That makes me really excited!
Many have differing thoughts on what the second exodus may look like, but one thing is for sure. The second exodus will be amazing! Jeremiah tells us that...
...days are coming, says YHVH, when they will no longer say: As YHVH lives, who brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt. Rather, as YHVH lives, who brought up and led the offspring of the house of Israel out of the north country and from all the lands where He had banished them. So they will dwell in their own soil.
Jeremiah 23:7-8
So, as we obey The Father and celebrate His Passover each year, we are participating in a dress rehearsal for the Second Exodus.
Are you excited yet!?!
I sure am!
So, now you know the elements that I use to celebrate Passover, but you may be wondering what it all looks like in practice.
Have you ever heard of a Haggadah? It is a program... kind of like a church bulletin, that gives you the order of the Passover Seder and dinner. You can find them online and even at some grocery stores this time of year. I like to make my own.
So, I think we may need another blog to talk about the Haggadah, or program, of the Passover celebration. If you would care to see an example of a "Debbie" Haggadah, be sure to come back next time when I invite you to...
I am loving this, and so appreciative of this teaching! I'm learning so much! Thank you! ❤❤
