The Two Witnesses - Israel 2023 Part 4
Two Witnesses
Two Witnesses -I had been on that trail before. What did it mean now in this context?
This was my experience at Qumran. You may recall hearing of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Well this is where they were found. It's a vast desert area south of Jerusalem, where The Essenes, a sect of religious Jewish men, meticulously copied the Bible and carefully stored it away in a system of caves.
Why?
I am not able to answer that question, but I do believe that The Holy Spirit must have been involved. You see, those Dead Sea Scrolls, buried in the caves of Qumran, authenticate the very scriptures we read today.
They are a witness.
Did the Essenes know that they had been called to a life of solemnity in the Israeli wilderness in order to preserve a witness on the earth...only to be revealed 2,000 years later?
Perhaps...
But scripture always points us to know that we need 2 witnesses. So, if the scrolls of the Essenes are a witness on the earth, what (or where) is the second witness?
Now let us all go outside and look up! When you come back, please read Psalm 19 with me:
The heavens declare the glory of God
and the sky shows his handiwork.
Day to day they speak,
night to night they reveal knowledge.
There is no speech, no words,
where their voice goes unheard....
The Torah of Adonai is perfect,
restoring the soul.
The testimony of Adonai is trustworthy,
making the simple wise....
You see there are always 2 witnesses. In Psalm 19, we see the sky and the Torah are examples. Even during the dark ages, when the witness of the earth was taken away from God's people for a time, the stars in the sky shone brightly. And the earthy witness remained...hidden ...waiting to be revealed.
We know little about the plan of salvation written in the stars, but those who have gone before us have left us a witness to that effect. I would encourage you to download the free book called The Witness of the Stars by E.W. Bullinger. In it, you will find that indeed scripture is written in the night skies... an eternal witness.
As I sat at Qumran my mind raced and my pen flew with witness combinations. From my journal:
Earth and heaven
Gentile and Jew
Blood and water
Moses and The Holy Spirit
Yeshua and YHVH
Joshua and Caleb
Since that time, I have continued to keep this thought close, and I am still collecting witnesses.
So what do we do with this? I don't know yet, but as I sat surrounded by those arid caves, I realized that the men who wrote and protected the scrolls were doing the job that they had been sent for. It had a purpose. Did they grasp the importance of their tasks? My guess is that it may have been impossible for them to truly know how important their work would prove to be.
What about us?
What parts of our lives may we be wondering about. Why? How much longer? To what benefit? To what end?
Friends -- Your. Work. Has. Purpose.
Perhaps answers do not always come this side of eternity.
Perhaps some of us have been chosen to preserve a witness...
I always love it when you take the time to...
Thanking you for the encouragement to keep on seeking. What a mighty God we serve.,
