The Great Escape - What Joseph Knew
Good to be together again. Today's title is about "escape," which Joseph speaks to the Sons of Israel about as he reveals his once hidden identity to them.
They are too dumbfounded to speak. They have just been saved.
And Joseph is already speaking of escape.
Want to know more? Let's go!
I think most of my readers are familiar with the history of Joseph and his brothers. How the brothers sold Jospeh into slavery in Egypt. And how after many trials, Jospeh came to be a great ruler in Egypt. If you want to brush up on the details, you can find the history here in Genesis.
When there came a great famine in the region, Joseph's brothers went to Egypt looking for food. Their brother Jospeh, who was in charge of the food, had changed so much, they did not recognize him! Joseph tested them a few times to see if their hearts had been changed, and thankfully, they passed the tests.
Jospeh finally decided to reveal his true identity to his brothers. And as he revealed himself, he said something strange...
"But God sent me ahead of you to ensure a remnant in the land and to keep you alive for a great escape*." Genesis 45:7
A great escape?
They just arrived...
What was Joseph talking about?
What did Joseph know about the Sons of Israel coming to Egypt?
Way back in Genesis 15:13, Abraham, Joseph's great grandfather, was told that his people would be enslaved and oppressed in a land that was not their own for 400 years.
Joseph had heard that story as a child.
He had hidden it in his heart.
Likely, many times over the years of his estrangement in Egypt, he had wondered if his own enslavement might fit in with that prophecy.
When Joseph's brothers arrived in Egypt, the puzzle pieces began to click together. Joseph understood that he was being used as YHVH's vessel to fulfill prophecy.
He understood that he was to gather his family and protect them in the short term. He also knew that they would eventually become enslaved. But Joseph knew even more than that.
Joseph had faith that YHVH's words would be fulfilled, and that his role was to keep his family alive for the day of their great escape! Genesis 15:14
He understood the covenant of the Land, which he had learned by listening to the wisdom from his fathers.
Well, that's great for Joseph and his brothers Debbie, but what does that have to do with us?
Excellent question.
Look around you, Friend.
Do you see any prophecies being fulfilled in our time?
Do you know what prophecies we should be looking for?
Are you sitting at the feet of those who have gone before you, drinking in their wisdom?
Are you reading the Bible?
Are you inserting yourself into current day prophecy...being used as YHVH's vessel to make it happen in our day?
Are you behaving like Joseph?
Well, I want to be like Joseph, but I still don't know what you're talking about Deb.
I want to encourage you to do 3 things, and I will make you a guarantee, that if you do, YHVH will reveal a specific way for you to work for Him.
1) Read the Bible - the whole thing- and look specifically for prophecies that have yet to be fulfilled.
2) Pray and ask YHVH where He is working right now and how you can become involved.
3) Act on what He reveals to you.
Yes, I know that you "aren't good enough." I'm not either. Don't be deceived. That is the enemy's biggest strategy. But guess who is big enough? Yeshua.
Yeshua through you is more than enough.
If Jospeh had stood around thinking thoughts like, "I'm not good enough," and "YHVH could never use me," Israel may not have been saved...in order to later escape...in order that the prophecies of Genesis 15:13-14 could be fulfilled.
Of course, if Joseph had refused, YHVH would have called another man. But...what a privilege Joseph would have lost. What a reward...gone....
Are you willing to stand around in faith-LESS self doubt and let someone else do the job that YHVH has called you to do?
Joseph wasn't.
YHVH can use you.
Y.O.U.
He has called you to His Way, and He has work for you to do.
You will only recognize that "work" if you read His Word, ask for His revelation, and act on what He reveals to you in faith.
When we fall for the lies of the enemy, we are basically telling YHVH that He is not enough. Ouch!
Open your eyes, and see what He is doing in our day...and
Join Him.
Make. It. Happen.
Be like Jospeh.
Always a pleasure, when you...
Come Seek With Me!
*I think it is interesting to note the word "escape" being used in Genesis 45:7. There are 2 Hebrew words for "escape." One is like "slipping away," and the other is closer to "being delivered like a refugee." The word being used here is "pa-lee-t," and it is the "refugee" kind of escape. This "escape" would be no quiet thing...and it would take a deliverer. Isn't our "escape" similar today? When we cross over to faith in Yeshua and leave the bondage of sin...we don't just slip away. We leave like refugees in need of a deliverer. Yeshua♡ HallaluYAH!
