The Fall Feasts Are Coming: Sukkot Part 3

I'm so happy that you have come back to visit with me in my sukkah!  This is one we have used in previous years.  As you can see, a sukkah is just a temporary outdoor living/hanging out space.  You can find lots of ideas for your own sukkah on the internet and places like Pinterest.  I'm kind of a basic girl, but for you artistic types that like to decorate, they sky is the limit (ha! it literally is!)
In Part 2, we discussed the importance of reading the Bible from cover to cover, the basics of Sukkot found in Leviticus 23, and the commandment to be joyful during Sukkot in Deuteronomy 16.

Now, let us take a look at Sukkot during the earthly life of Yeshua.  What was it like, and do we see any evidence that He participated?

There were 2 important ceremonies associated with Sukkot during the days of Yeshua's earthly life.  There was a light ceremony 💡 and a water ceremony🚰.

💡 I bet you recall that Yeshua said in John 8:12“I am the light of the world. The one who follows Me will no longer walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”...Well, guess when He said that.  Yep, you know it was...

Sukkot

🚰 I bet you also recall that Yeshua said in John 8:37-39 “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.  Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture says, ‘out of his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’”  Now He said this about the Ruach, whom those who trusted in Him were going to receive; for the Ruach was not yet given, since Yeshua was not yet glorified."  And once again, I know you realize when He said this...

Sukkot

Yeshua used the traditions of His day to teach Israel about Himself and His divine nature.

Can you imagine being in Jerusalem surrounded by thousands of people, watching a highly structured religious ceremony, and seeing Yeshua...The Messiah...uninvited...stand and take command of the most impactful moments of the feast?

Do you think those that witnessed Yeshua making these bold claims understood?

I think many did.

We have this thought as believers that Messiah Yeshua was rejected by the Jews.  He was rejected by the leadership of the nation, but many Jews did recognize their Messiah.  They accepted Him with open arms, and it is their witness that brought His salvation to you and to me.

The disciples were all Jewish.  The first converts at Shavuot / Pentecost were all Jewish.  Our faith stands on the shoulders of great Jewish believers, many of whom gave their lives to share the good news of the gospel with the gentile nations.

Think of the apostle Paul.  He was a Pharisee from the tribe of Benjamin.  He did not "convert" to Christianity.  He accepted His Messiah...the Messiah of Israel.  He carried, as a prisoner, the message of salvation in Yeshua all the way to Rome, where it could be spread throughout the entire world.

Yeshua

Name above all names...

He. Loves. Us. So. Much.

He celebrated Sukkot.  Do we really need more?

While I likely know the answer to that question, I will leave you to decide.  The good news, however, is that there IS more.

Like every other feast of YHVH, Sukkot has layers of meaning.  While we get to look back at The Father's provision during the time of the Exodus, there is also something about Sukkot that looks to the future.

Ever heard of the Marriage Supper of the Lamb?

Well, Sukkot is a yearly dress rehearsal for this prophetic event!

Let us flip over to Revelation 19:6-9 and read about the great wedding feast that is still to come.

Did you notice how the bride was to make herself ready...and that her fine linen wedding clothes were to be made out of the righteous deeds of the saints?

Friends!  THIS is what we are practicing for!!

THIS is what it is all about.

We look back in thanksgiving, and we look forward in anticipation.

Yeshua is coming again.  Coming soon...

Are your wedding clothes ready?

This brings us to the close of what I can share with you in such a short amount of time with mere written words.  But, there is a much better writer than me who can share this feast with you so much better.  The Creator of the Universe has written a book through the instrument of men...the Bible.  It contains such great wisdom and truth.  This is where I seek, and I hope that you will continue to...

Come Seek With Me!
