The Fall Feasts Are Coming: Yom Teruah

Good to be with you again to speak very briefly about The Feast of Trumpets, or Yom Teruah.  We learn of this appointed time in Leviticus 23:23-35.

My desire in sharing with you is twofold:

  1. I want to make you aware that there is a feast called Yom Teruah, and it is coming soon.
  2. I hope to inspire you to begin to study about and acknowledge it as part of your faith walk.
If you have read this far, I've been somewhat successful!  You are aware.
Now...what?

Glad you asked!

Here are a few things I would like to share about this feast:
  • Jews typically celebrate a holiday called Rosh Hashanah at the time of Yom Teruah.  Rosh Hashanah means "head of the year," and it is celebrated as the beginning of the new year.  There are a lot of layers to this...and I am not qualified to unpack them for you at this time.  Just be aware that you will hear much about Rosh Hashanah and the Jewish customs associated with it...but it is NOT the same thing as Yom Teruah.

  • Since I translated Rosh Hashana for you, you might be interested to know the literal translation of Yom Teruah.  It's not what you might think.  Since we call it the Feast of Trumpets in English, one might think that THAT is the translation...but it is not.  Yom Teruah literally translates into English as "day of shouting."  Shouting?  Yes, shouting.  So why do we call it trumpets?  Well...I *think* it has to do with the fact that scripturally, the shout or alarm for war would have been made with a trumpet.
Definition of Yom Teruah

  • Now...where have we heard about "shouting" before? Let us look at 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18.  When Yeshua returns there will be a SHOUT and the blast of a SHOFAR or TRUMPET!

For the Lord Himself shall come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the blast of God’s shofarand the dead in Messiah shall rise first.

Friends, THIS is why I study the feasts of YHVH!  They each have prophetic significance.

Every.

Single.

One.

You see,
Yom Teruah is a dress rehearsal for
Yeshua's return!!!!!

Isn't that exciting!!!!

I shared with you that Yom Teruah is coming soon.  Check your calendars, Friends!  It takes place each year on the first day of the seventh month.  At my house*, that means we will be celebrating Yom Teruah beginning at sunset on September 6th and throughout the day on September 7th (2021).  I will not promise you that these are the exact correct dates to celebrate, but, as I discussed last we were together, we can only see in the mirror dimly at this time.  But one day....One day we will fully know!

While brief and very elementary, I hope I have given you enough information about Yom Teruah to tip your curiosity and give you a starting point for doing a bit of research.  If nothing else, just tell The Father that you acknowledge His Appointed Time and do some shouting on September 6th and 7th.  It's a start!

Following Yom Teruah, is a solemn day called Yom Kippur, or the Day of Atonement.  I will be back to share a bit about it soon and invite you to...

*There are debates about calendars that I will not subject you to...but let's just say that there are differing opinions on when to celebrate the feasts.  I think of it kind of like church denominations.  The Baptists and Methodists differ in some aspects but have many more aspects in common.  Same with the date debate.
