One More Blessing....Free of Charge

Image
Balaam Blesses Israel by Abby I We left Balaam humbled by his donkey and Balak anxious for Balaam's curse in Numbers 22.  Let's see how this history continues to develop...to the great horror of Balak, king of Moab. Scripture:  Numbers 23&24 Balaam instructs Balak to build alters and prepare sacrifices to Yehovah, then Balaam "went to a barren height" (23:3) where "God met with Balaam"(23:4).  This meeting, and a few others, did not go as planned.  Balaam leaves this encounter with a blessing for Israel.  As a matter of fact, each time Balaam "goes up" to meet with Yehovah, the blessings get better!  I will not take the time to chronicle them individually here, but they are definitely worth reading: 23:7-10 23:18-24 24:3-9  24:15-19 Keep in mind that these blessings are being uttered by a pagan sorcerer hired by a military enemy...to curse Israel! A few highlights... "Who can count Jacob's dust?  Who can number a fou...

V' Atah Kadosh: Yet You Are Holy

Image
Yet You Are Holy Gone through any trials lately?  My pastor reminds our church that we are all in a trial, exiting a trial, or about to enter into one.  Not super encouraging, but truth can sometimes be hard.  I recall the trial that led to today's picture.  I felt like there was no way around "the wall."  It was a difficult time for sure, but before it, in it, and after it, guess what?   Yehovah. Was/Is/Will Be. Holy. "That's easy for you to say; you don't know my trial, Deb!"   It is likely much harder than I can realize; you're right.  But, I know The One who knows your pain, and He does understand.  He has experienced the worst pain possible...."He had no form or majesty that we should look at Him, nor beauty that we should desire Him. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief, One from whom people hide their faces. He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.  Surely He has borne our g...

Lessons From a Donkey

Image
My studies today have brought me to the Bible history of Balak, Balaam, and Balaam's donkey.  Spoiler Alert!  The donkey exhibits the most wisdom in this particular history.  What lessons can we learn from Balaam's donkey? Scripture:  Numbers 22 The Players: Balek, king of Moab Elders, advisors to King Balek of Moab Balaam, a soothsayer from "near the river" (Euphrates ?) Donkey, Balaam's donkey Israel, during the wilderness years Moses is leading Israel through the wilderness, and The God of Israel is getting quite a reputation for taking care of His people.  Balek is taking note, and he realizes that Moab could be in danger if Israel is allowed to continue unchecked.  He seems unwilling to approach them militarily at this point, so he and his elders decide the best plan of action is to call upon Balaam in order to have Israel properly cursed.  Balek states that, "whoever you bless will be blessed and whoever you curse will b...

Are You Willing?

Anyone out there like me...thinking that "the good shepherd" statement made by Yeshua (Jesus) was a simple analogy made up "on the spot" to convey His caring nature?   Oh boy! In my quest to understand the Old Testament (OT), I am finding that so many things in the New Testament (NT) are just re-teachings of original OT teachings.  This good shepherd  statement is a prime example, and it explains why the Judean leaders wanted to stone Yeshua for blasphemy! (John 10:33)  Without the context of the OT, one could not possibly understand the complete gravity of what Yeshua was claiming when referring to Himself as the Good Shepherd.   So, let's take a look... Ezekiel 34 (whole chapter) Jeremiah 23:1-4 John 10 (whole chapter) There is quite a bit of scripture reading today, but if you've been able to take the time to read the above passages, it has probably "clicked" with you as to why the Judeans were divided (John 10:19) and why the Ju...

The Counterfeit

Image
As I write today, a solar eclipse is literally less than 48-hours away.  There is a bit of eclipse hysteria in the air.  People are scrambling to get their approved glasses, and many travel plans are being made in order to get the best possible view.  Some groups see the impending eclipse as a cool learning experience, while others preach that it is a sign of soon-coming doom.  Seems like a good day to broach an end-times subject that many of us don't like to think about: the mark.   Of course when I mention "the mark," I am guessing your mind goes straight to the mark of the beast.  I have spent much time pondering the mark of the beast.  I find in conversing with fellow believers that many are uncomfortable thinking about, discussing, and studying it.  I think a lot of us are more comfortable pretending that Daniel, Ezekiel, and Revelation do not exist.  Why is this? I believe the answer is, fear.   It is human nature to fe...

Who Are We Following?

Image
I've been doing some digging in Daniel as of late, and what a little gem I have discovered.  Come Seek With Me! Here are three scripture passages that I will be referencing: Gen 1:14 Psalm 104:19 Daniel 7:25 So, the big "Ah-Ha" moment for me has to do with why YHVH is so offended by the one who will "speak words against the Most High, and will continually harass the kedoshim (holy ones) of the Most High, and will try to change the appointed times and law.  Dan 7:25 (emphasis mine) Obviously, it is offensive when one speaks words against YHVH and harasses His holy people.  That is a no-brainer.   But why is it such an offense to seek to change the appointed times?  That was the question that The Holy Spirit led me to seek, and I found the answer incredibly interesting.   As I find so often, the answer goes back to Genesis.  When YHVH created the lights in the sky on the fourth day of creation, He created them to be for "signs, seas...

Hallelujah!

Image
Hallelujah!  It's a word those of us among the church know well.  We say it when a prayer has been answered; when we hear good news; when singing; when praising God.  It is a praise word, and we know that, but it is also something else.  Chase a squirrel with me for a moment.  We will get right back to this. Let me tell you a bit about me.  My name is Deborah.  My family and friends call me Debbie.  Sometimes, people call me Deb.  All of these are my name.  There are other words that can describe me:  woman, she, human, sister, wife, person etc (be kind when thinking of the etc 😉).  These words point to me in a generic way...a way that they may point to many people.  They can be helpful in describing me, but they are not my name.  If my husband stopped calling me Deb and only called me "Wife" for the rest of my life, I would feel a bit forgotten.  How about you?  Would you want to be called by a gen...
