Appointed Times: Part 1 ~Tis the Season

 Appointed Times

And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night.  And let them be for signs, and for _______, and for days and years."  Genesis 1:14, ESV

Let's look that word up in Strong's Concordance...

It's H4150

As you can see, this word means more than spring, summer, autumn, and winter.

We find this word 223 times in scripture!  Here are just a few examples

How do we see the word being used in the examples?

Let's go back and read Genesis 1:14 now that we have studied the word "seasons."

And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night.  And let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years."  Genesis 1:14, ESV

Now that we know the word seasons more deeply, let's back up to put it in context with the rest of the verse.

What did God put in place to help mankind know the seasons?

And God said, "Let there be ________ in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night.  And let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years."  Genesis 1:14, ESV

Yes, lights!

Let's read it together:

And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night.  And let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years."  Genesis 1:14, ESV

So...

The lights in the sky... the sun, moon, and stars have several purposes.  One of those is to indicate when God desires to have an appointment with His followers.

Did you catch that?

The CREATOR of the Universe desires to meet with

YOU & ME

Isn't

That

Amazing!!!

Did you know that there is a list of appointments that God wants to have with his people in the book of Leviticus?

The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, "Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, These are the appointed feasts of The Lord that you shall proclaim as holy convocations; they are My appointed feasts." Leviticus 23:1-2

(Green highlight indicates our target word "seasons" is the Hebrew being used here).

Give Leviticus 23 a scan.  How many appointments can you find?

I found _______ appointments.

Let's start right here next time you are able to...
