Appointed Times: Make a Joyful Noise! ~ Part 2
Welcome back to our "part 2" of the Feast of Trumpets
And the Lord spoke to Moses saying, 'Speak to the people of Israel, saying, in the 7th month, on the first day of the month, you shall observe a day of solemn rest, a _________ proclaimed with blast of trumpets, a holy convocation.'

Memorial
Let's read the verse with "memorial" added back...
And the Lord spoke to Moses saying, 'Speak to the people of Israel, saying, in the 7th month, on the first day of the month, you shall observe a day of solemn rest, a memorial proclaimed with blast of trumpets, a holy convocation.'
Now, let's look at the word "memorial" in Strong's Concordance AND notice some of the other instances where the word is used in scripture.
It's H2146
What did we notice?
It seems that God commands His people to remember important events quite often!
What is He commanding Israel to remember with the Feast of Trumpets?
In the name of transparency, I'm going to tell you that scripture does not explicitly tell us.
However...
We see that God is a God of patterns, and we do see in scripture that many times He commands His people to remember past events. These memorials tend to be BIG deals to God. He wants His people to remember how He has saved, redeemed, and provided for them. We can look back at the uses of the word "memorial" for a refresher: H2146
Jewish tradition ties the memorial of the Feast of Trumpets to an event that took place in Exodus 19. Let's take a look to see why the rabbis believe that the Exodus 19 event is the one that is to be remembered during the Feast of Trumpets.
It begins with a little history lesson...
In Exodus 3, God reveals Himself to Moses at the burning bush. As Moses asks for confirmation, God gives him a sign.
....This shall be the sign for you, that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.
What mountain was "THIS mountain?"
Exodus 3:1 tells us it was Mount Horeb, the Mountain of God.
A quick search in Strong's Concordance gives us another name for Horeb. See H2722.
What is Mount Horeb also called?
Mount Sinai
Keep that in mind as we move on to Exodus 19.
On the third new moon after the people of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, on that day they came into the wilderness of Sinai. They set out from Rephidim and came into the wilderness of ______, and they encamped in the wilderness. There Israel encamped _______________...
Let's click the link above and fill in the blanks!
We find that Israel came into the wilderness of
Sinai
and encamped
Before the Mountain
So we can see that when God makes a promise, He keeps it. Moses and the children of Israel found themselves exactly where God said they would.
And then He called them to worship.
Exodus 19 tells us that they were to ready themselves and then appear at the foot of the mountain on the 3rd day.
It was at this mountain and at this time that the people of Israel entered into covenant with The Almighty God.
At this time, Moses was their mediator, and he relayed the words of the covenant to the people.
But guess what the people literally heard as God spoke?
Then Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God, and they took their stand at the foot of the mountain. Now Mount Sinai was wrapped in smoke because The Lord had descended on it in fire....And as the sound of the ________ grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him in thunder.
Let's click the link above to find out what sound grew louder and louder.
It was the sound of the
TRUMPET 🎺
Who was playing the trumpet?
It wasn't Moses, nor the people of Israel.
It was the sound of God, Himself!
The word used in this passage for "trumpet" is the Hebrew word for "shofar." See H7782 in Strong's Concordance.
I believe this is why the Feast of Trumpets is so closely tied to the sound of the shofar.
I believe that the covenant made with Israel at Sinai is what the "memorial" is referring to in Leviticus 23:23-24
This can add some context to the Feast of Trumpets.
But wait, there's more!
As we make noise on the Feast of Trumpets, we are not only remembering the covenant at Sinai. We are also rehearsing an event that has not yet been completed...
Let's look in the New Testament
For The Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command (the KJV uses the word "shout"), with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet The Lord in the air, and so we will always be with The Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.
So as we shout, trumpet, and make a joyful noise on the Feast of Trumpets, we not only look back to Sinai; we look forward to the literal
🎺 trumpet 🎺
of Christ!
I cannot think of a better reason to celebrate this appointed time!
🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺
How about you?
Let's encourage one another with these words!!!🎺
God still has more appointments for us to learn about!
I hope you will be back soon to...
